At the Seongsan Ilchubong

The Dragon Head rock (Yongduam)Always red, always UNITED, wherever I am - this time,
in Seopjikoji, Jeju Island :O)

Under the arms of a gentle giant:
Lynn and I in the Teseum Safari Bear gift shop
Here I am: Seopjikoji

Shot from the cliff: I Just love the turqoise blue waters
and the black (volacanic?) rocks

A wider view of Seopjikoji

(Top, centre & bottom): Clay figurines depicting
the lives of Korean women in the past

Jeju - pronounced as ‘jay-joo’

If one thing was more pronounced than any other in Jeju island, it probably had to be the sight of the Dragon Head rock (Yongduam Rock). We took our domestic flight from Seoul to Jeju, and it was already dark when we reached our first destination in Jeju. The Korean skies get dark pretty early (around 5.30pm plus) as compared to ours here. There were scores of tourists trying to catch a glimpse of the famed rock formation. I read that one might need some imagination to identify the dragon but for me, the Dragon Head stood out majestically against the crashing waves from the beginning, all the while being illuminated by yellow spotlights.

We spent 2 nights in Jeju island, and it was quite a refreshing pace, although on the second day we were climbing up the 180m high Seongsan Ilchubong, also known as the Sunrise Peak. It was a bit taxing for me at first, what with the cold and slight altitude, but I enjoyed the stairway to the top of the peak. The air was cool, fresh and upon reaching the top, we saw the sun streaking through a thick layer of clouds.

A beautiful moment.
